Kids toothpaste OEM/ODM manufacturing
Kids Toothpaste · Children's Toothpaste · OEM/ODM
Kids toothpaste is a product parents choose very carefully: children need to like the flavor to brush every day, while parents want peace of mind about the ingredients and the amount of fluoride. Young children often swallow some toothpaste while brushing, so dosage, fluoride content and label directions are central to both the formula and the dossier. Regulations require every fluoride toothpaste to carry clear directions for children aged 6 and under: use a pea-sized amount, with adult supervision. Then there are children's specific needs: mild fruit flavors instead of strong mint, low abrasivity for baby tooth enamel, and gentle foaming agents. Butter-C offers full-service OEM/ODM manufacturing, from formula development to a labeled finished product with its cosmetic product notification.
Formula base
A mild paste base, age-appropriate fluoride and kid-friendly flavors
Kids toothpaste uses a standard toothpaste base, with flavor, abrasivity, foaming agents and fluoride content adjusted for children.
Fluoride or fluoride-free
Fluoride toothpaste with a level chosen for the target age group, within permitted limits; or a fluoride-free line using xylitol and hydroxyapatite for young children who cannot yet spit.
Mild abrasives
Low-abrasion silica, suited to baby tooth enamel.
Gentle foaming agents
Mild or SLS-free foaming agents with little foam, so children stay comfortable.
Flavor and color
Strawberry, orange, grape, apple, milk flavors; colorants permitted for oral care products; non-cariogenic sweeteners.
Key technical points
Four things that determine kids toothpaste quality
Appropriate fluoride level
The level is chosen for the age group you target, with total fluorine within permitted limits; assayed in every batch.
A flavor kids like without being too sweet
Light fruit flavors with no burning sensation; pleasant enough for children to brush but not encouraging them to eat the toothpaste.
Label and directions for parents
The mandatory fluoride warning, a pea-sized amount, adult supervision — presented clearly and legibly on the carton and tube.
Child-safe packaging
Small tubes, attached flip caps, fun illustrations; cap size designed to prevent swallowing.
Three formulation directions
Three common kids toothpaste lines
For young children who cannot yet spit
Fluoride-free or very low fluoride depending on your direction, mild milk or fruit flavor, low foam.
For children aged 3–6
Low fluoride, fruit flavor, colored clear gel; pea-sized amount directions.
For children over 6
Fluoride at or near adult levels, mild mint or fruit flavor, a transition toward family toothpaste.
Packaging designed alongside the formula
Small flip-cap tubes, stand-up tubes; cartons clearly stating the age range and directions for parents.
Parameters we monitor
What our R&D lab measures on every sample
Below are the parameters Butter-C monitors during formula development and scale-up to production. Specific limits are agreed with you on the approved sample and then written into the product's in-house specification.
- Fluoride content
- Assay of total and available fluoride in the finished product, at manufacture and after aging.
- Abrasivity
- Low-abrasion abrasives per the supplier's data sheet; evaluated when claimed.
- pH, viscosity
- Measured on a diluted slurry and on the paste.
- Color and flavor
- Stable after aging tests; colorants from the list permitted for oral care products.
- Microbiology
- Tested at a GLP / ISO 17025-accredited laboratory.
- Heavy metals
- Tested on the finished product for products intended for children.
- Label content
- Checked for the fluoride warning, age range, dosage and supervision directions.
- Packaging compatibility
- Monitoring flip-cap leakage and delamination of the tube's inner layer.
Claims
Writing claims within the cosmetic scope
Children's products call for cautious wording, with no promises the label cannot substantiate. Butter-C reviews the wording on labels and marketing materials while preparing the cosmetic product notification.
