Hand cream OEM/ODM manufacturing
Hand Cream · Perfumed Hand Cream · OEM/ODM
Hands are washed many times a day and exposed to soap, dishwashing liquid, hand sanitizer and air conditioning, so they become dry, rough and cracked early. Hand cream is therefore used many times a day, and precisely because of that, users have very specific expectations: it must absorb fast enough to pick up a phone or type right away, leave no greasy marks on paper, yet keep hands soft after several washes. In the gift market, hand cream is also an affordable way to showcase a brand's signature scents, packed in multi-scent sets. Butter-C offers turnkey OEM/ODM manufacturing, from formula development and fragrance selection to labeled finished goods and the notification dossier.
Formula base
A fast-absorbing emulsion, humectants and a protective layer
A hand cream has to balance a protective layer that holds up to hand washing with a dry finish that lets people get back to work right away.
Humectants
Glycerin at higher levels than in a typical moisturizer, urea, sodium PCA to hold water in dry, rough hands.
Protective layer
Dimethicone, shea butter and beeswax at moderate levels form a thin moisture-retaining film between washes without feeling greasy.
Dry-finish agents
Modified starch, silica and polymers give a dry feel right after application, without marks on paper or screens.
Nail care and fragrance
Panthenol, hydrolyzed keratin and plant oils for the nails and surrounding skin; a perfume-style scent is the main signature of gift lines.
Key technical points
Four factors that decide hand cream quality
Fast-absorbing, non-greasy
Dry-to-touch time on hands and marks left on paper and phone screens are assessed; oil, silicone and dry-finish powder ratios are adjusted.
Holds up to hand washing
The protective layer is assessed after a few washes: hands stay soft and do not immediately feel dry and tight again.
Lasting but not harsh scent
Scent on the hands is close to the nose and transfers to everything the user touches; fragrance level is tuned to last without being overpowering.
Stable in small tubes
Small tubes are carried around and exposed to heat in handbags and cars; the emulsion must be stable at high temperatures.
Three formulation directions
Three common hand cream lines
Perfumed hand cream
A light, fast-absorbing cream with a strong scent; sold in multi-scent gift sets.
Hand cream for very dry skin
Urea, shea butter and a thicker protective layer; for evening use or for people who do manual work and wash their hands often.
Non-greasy hand gel-cream
A light gel base that dries almost instantly; suits hot climates, office workers and people who dislike the feel of cream.
Packaging designed with the formula
Aluminum tubes, plastic tubes, small jars, pump bottles for the sink. Aluminum tubes need a non-corrosive cream and a suitable inner lining.
Parameters we monitor
What our R&D lab measures on every sample
These are the parameters Butter-C monitors during formula development and scale-up to production. Specific limits are agreed with you on the approved sample and then written into the product's in-house specification.
- pH and viscosity
- Measured at 25°C; viscosity determines how the cream feels when the tube is squeezed.
- Emulsion stability
- Centrifuge, freeze–thaw cycling and storage at 40°C and 45°C; monitored for separation, color change and odor change.
- Dry-to-touch time
- Assessed on panelists' hands and by marks left on paper.
- Durability of the moisturizing layer
- Skin feel on the hands assessed after a few washes.
- Fragrance allergens
- Checked against the fragrance supplier's composition statement; labeled when above the threshold for leave-on products.
- Microbiology and preservative efficacy
- Tested at a GLP / ISO 17025-accredited laboratory; preservative efficacy (challenge) test to ISO 11930.
- Packaging compatibility
- Monitored for corrosion, cracking at aluminum tube folds and cap leakage.
- Net content
- Checked on every batch, especially for small tubes.
Claims
Writing claims within cosmetic scope
Hand creams are often described with promises about cracking and peeling; the cosmetic benefit needs to be named correctly. Butter-C reviews the wording on labels and marketing materials while preparing the notification dossier.
