Roll-on deodorant OEM/ODM manufacturing
Roll-On Deodorant · Antiperspirant · OEM/ODM
Body odor forms when bacteria that naturally live on the skin break down odorless substances in underarm sweat into odorous compounds. That leads to two approaches: deodorants reduce odor by limiting this breakdown and adding fragrance, while antiperspirants use aluminum salts to reduce the amount of sweat. Both are cosmetics, but aluminum salts have concentration limits and specific warning requirements. In a hot, humid climate, local consumers also care about three more things: drying quickly after application, not leaving yellow stains on white shirts, and being gentle on freshly shaved or waxed skin. Butter-C provides full-service OEM/ODM manufacturing, from formula development to labeled finished goods with the cosmetic product notification.
Formula base
Deodorant actives, antiperspirant salts and the base
The key ingredients determine whether the product is a deodorant only or also has an antiperspirant effect.
Deodorant actives
Zinc Ricinoleate traps odor molecules; Triethyl Citrate and Ethylhexylglycerin slow down odor formation; Magnesium Hydroxide and Sodium Bicarbonate for aluminum-free lines.
Antiperspirant salts
Aluminum Chlorohydrate and aluminum–zirconium complexes form temporary plugs in the sweat gland openings. Concentrations follow the permitted limits, and the label must carry a warning.
Product base
Fluid emulsion for roll-on bottles, clear gel, or a twist-up stick. The base determines drying speed and transfer onto clothing.
Soothing agents and fragrance
Glycerin, Allantoin and aloe vera for freshly shaved skin; a light, long-lasting fragrance that does not overpower perfume.
Key technical points
Four factors that determine the quality of a roll-on deodorant
Quick-drying, non-sticky
The ratio of water, alcohol, volatile silicones and thickeners is balanced so the underarm dries quickly, clothes can go on soon after, and no tacky layer is left behind.
Limiting yellow stains and white marks on clothing
Aluminum salts combined with sweat and laundry detergents tend to cause yellow stains; oil and powder bases can leave white marks on dark clothing. Every sample is tested on white and black fabric.
Gentle on thin skin
Underarm skin is thin and often shaved or waxed; alcohol, fragrance and aluminum salts are sources of stinging that need to be controlled.
Smooth-rolling ball, no sticking
The viscosity of the base must suit the ball size; too thick and the ball sticks, too thin and it leaks.
Three formulation directions
Three common types of roll-on deodorant
Aluminum-free roll-on deodorant
Deodorant actives with no reduction in sweating; gentle, suited to people who want to avoid aluminum salts and those who sweat lightly.
Antiperspirant roll-on
Aluminum salts within permitted limits, with deodorant actives and fragrance; suited to people who sweat heavily and hot climates.
Deodorant stick
A wax and oil base applied directly; dry right away, easy to carry and does not spill when traveling.
Packaging is planned with the formula
Glass or plastic roll-on bottles, twist-up sticks. Ball size, bottle neck and cap must seal tightly so the base does not evaporate or leak.
Parameters we monitor
What our R&D lab measures on every sample
Below are the parameters Butter-C monitors during formula development and scale-up to production. Specific limits are agreed with you on the approved sample and then written into the product's in-house specification.
- Aluminum salt content
- Tracked against the formula and tested in the finished product to ensure it is within permitted limits.
- pH and viscosity
- Measured at 25°C; viscosity determines how smoothly the ball rolls.
- Stability
- Freeze–thaw cycling and storage at 40°C; separation, salt precipitation and odor changes are tracked.
- Drying time
- Evaluated on test users under hot, humid conditions.
- Marks on clothing
- Tested on white and black fabric: white marks when worn, yellow stains after washing.
- Microbiology and preservative challenge
- Tested at a GLP / ISO 17025-accredited laboratory; preservative efficacy (challenge) test per ISO 11930.
- Deodorant efficacy (if hours are claimed)
- Odor assessment on volunteers at an independent testing facility.
- Packaging compatibility
- Ball sticking, cap leakage and evaporation through the bottle neck are tracked.
Claims
Writing claims within the cosmetic scope
Hour-based odor protection figures and promises about bacteria are where substantiation is most often requested. Butter-C reviews the wording on labels and marketing materials as soon as the notification dossier is prepared.

State 24 hours or 48 hours only when supported by evaluation results.
Helps limit yellow stains on clothing
