Kids mosquito repellent spray OEM/ODM manufacturing
Kids Mosquito Repellent Spray · Insect Repellent · OEM/ODM
Mosquito repellent sprays for children are a product parents search for often, especially in the rainy season. The first thing you need to know: a product applied to skin to repel mosquitoes and insects is not a cosmetic; it belongs to the category of insecticidal preparations for household and medical use. This category has its own registration dossier, requires efficacy trials at a designated testing facility and separate manufacturing conditions — entirely different from a cosmetic product notification. For that reason, Butter-C advises on the formula and packaging, while the manufacturing and registration approach is discussed separately for each project. For children, the active and its concentration must be chosen according to the age range permitted in the registration dossier.
Formula base
Insect repellent actives in a skin-friendly base
A mosquito repellent spray consists of an insect repellent active, a solvent base (water, with or without alcohol) and ingredients that make it comfortable on skin.
Actives
IR3535, icaridin — actives commonly chosen for children's products; concentration as per the registration dossier.
Essential oils
Citronella and lemongrass at low levels, mainly for scent; they do not replace the main active.
Base
Water, glycerin, solubilizers; alcohol-free versions are gentler on children's skin.
Skin care
Aloe vera and glycerin so skin does not dry out after repeated sprays.
Key technical points
Four factors that define a mosquito repellent for children
Age-appropriate actives
Each active has its own applicable age range and concentration; label exactly as per the registration dossier, never extending use to younger children.
Trial-verified efficacy
The protection time on the label must be based on efficacy trial results, not estimates.
Gentle on skin
Alcohol-free or low-alcohol base, non-greasy, light scent; irritating essential oils are kept to a minimum.
Label and directions
Do not spray directly on a child's face; adults spray onto their hands and then apply; avoid the child's eyes, mouth and hands.
Three formulation directions
Three common types of mosquito repellent
Fine-mist spray
Water-based, quickly covers large areas such as arms and legs.
Roll-on or gel
Easy to dose, no airborne mist when applied, well suited to children.
Spray for clothing and nets
For fabric, not for application to skin — registered according to the corresponding intended use.
Packaging must be planned with the formula
Mechanical fine-mist sprayers (aerosol formats discussed separately); secure caps that make it harder for children to open.
Parameters we monitor
What our R&D lab measures on every sample
Below are the parameters monitored during formula development. Parameters for the preparation's registration dossier are tested by a designated testing facility as required by regulations.
- Active content
- Quantified on the finished product, at manufacture and after aging.
- pH
- Measured on fresh batches and after aging.
- Clarity
- Observed at cold, room and elevated temperatures.
- Preservative performance
- Preservative efficacy (challenge) test for water-based versions.
- Microbiology
- Tested at a GLP / ISO 17025-accredited laboratory.
- Insect repellent efficacy
- Trials at a designated facility to support the registration dossier.
- Packaging compatibility
- Monitors the spray nozzle, leakage and interaction between the active and plastics.
Claims
Writing claims in line with the registration dossier
The benefits and protection time stated on the label must match the trial results in the preparation's registration dossier.

Lemongrass and aloe vera extracts
State their role accurately; do not suggest that essential oils replace the active.
Directions for use
Adults spray onto their hands and then apply to the child; do not spray on the face or apply to the child's hands.
Warnings
Avoid eyes and mouth; do not use on broken skin; keep out of reach of children.
