Brightening body cream is one of the most sought-after categories in the Vietnamese market, and also one that regulators inspect frequently, because some unregistered "mixed creams" have been found to contain mercury, hydroquinone or corticosteroids. A properly made brightening body cream has two layers of benefit that should be kept distinct: an instant brighter look from pigments that coat the skin, and a more even tone over several weeks from permitted brightening actives. Explaining both layers clearly to consumers is how a brand protects its reputation over the long term. Formula base
Brightening actives, pigments and cream base
Brightening body cream is an emulsion carrying two groups of ingredients with different roles: actives that work over time and pigments that create an instant effect.
Brightening actives
Niacinamide, Tranexamic Acid, Alpha-Arbutin, vitamin C derivatives, licorice extract — act on how pigment forms and is distributed, with results after several weeks of regular use.
Tone-up pigments
Titanium Dioxide, coated Mica, pearl powder — cover and scatter light so skin looks brighter right after application; washes off.
Cream base
Oil-in-water emulsion with a moderate oil content, gelling polymers and film formers so the cream dries quickly, does not transfer to clothing and resists sweat.
Moisturizing and soothing
Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid, Panthenol — keep skin soft; well-hydrated skin also looks brighter and smoother.

Four factors that define brightening body cream quality
Actives on the right lists, within limits
Each active is checked against the restricted substances list; some actives have lower limits for body products than for facial creams.
Tone-up without transfer
Pigment level, particle size and film formers are balanced so skin looks naturally brighter, not chalky, with minimal transfer to clothing and no wash-off when sweating.
Keeping actives stable in the cream
Some actives tend to discolor or change odor over time; pH, the antioxidant system and packaging are chosen so the cream keeps its color and scent throughout shelf life.
Banned-substance testing on the finished product
Mercury, hydroquinone and corticosteroids are tested in the finished product at a testing laboratory — giving you confidence when selling and during inspections.

Brightening body cream without tone-up
Brightening and moisturizing actives only; skin brightens gradually over weeks. A long-term care positioning with little risk of transfer to clothing.
Tone-up body cream
Pigments for an instant effect plus brightening actives; a high-demand line that must describe both layers of benefit accurately.
Night body cream
A richer texture, actives at higher levels within permitted limits, no pigments; used before bed.
Packaging must be planned with the formula
Jars, tubes, pump bottles. Light-sensitive actives need opaque packaging; pigments need a cream thick enough to prevent settling.

What our R&D lab measures on every sample
Below are the parameters Butter-C tracks during formula development and scale-up to production. Specific limits are agreed with you on the approved sample and then written into the product's in-house specification.
- Banned substances
- Mercury, hydroquinone, corticosteroids — tested in the finished product at a testing laboratory.
- Content of restricted actives
- Tracked per formula and tested when needed to confirm they stay within permitted limits.
- pH
- Measured at 25°C; kept within the stability range of the actives and gentle on skin.
- Color and odor over time
- Compared against the reference sample after aging tests; monitoring yellowing and odor changes.
- Emulsion stability
- Centrifugation, freeze–thaw cycling, storage at 40°C; monitoring separation and pigment settling.
- Skin assessment
- Tone-up level, natural look, white cast, transfer to clothing, sweat resistance.
- Microbiology and challenge test
- Tested at a GLP / ISO 17025-accredited laboratory; preservative efficacy (challenge) test per ISO 11930.
- Heavy metals
- Mineral powders and pigments are sources to control; checked against certificates of analysis and tested in the finished product.

Keeping claims within cosmetic scope
Labels and advertising in this category are often required to revise their wording. Butter-C reviews the wording on labels and marketing materials while preparing the cosmetic product notification.
