Eye cream OEM/ODM manufacturing
Eye Cream · OEM/ODM
The skin around the eyes is thinner than the rest of the face, has fewer oil glands and moves constantly with every blink — so this is where dryness, dark circles and fine lines appear early. An eye cream is not simply a facial cream in a smaller tube: it sits right next to the eye's mucous membrane, so the requirements for mildness, for the preservative system and for the ability to "stay put" where it is applied are much stricter. Dark circles also have several different causes, and cosmetics can only address some of them — an honest formula chooses the right part to work on. Butter-C offers full-service OEM/ODM manufacturing, from formula development to a labeled finished product with its cosmetic product notification.
Formula base
Choosing actives by underlying cause
Dark circles caused by pigmentation, by blood vessels beneath the skin or by the structure of the eye socket call for different approaches. Formulas usually combine two or three of the groups below.
Skin tone evening group
Tranexamic Acid, Glutathione, Niacinamide, mild vitamin C derivatives. For brownish dark circles caused by pigmentation. Glutathione oxidizes easily and has a characteristic odor that must be managed in the formula.
Tired-eye group
Caffeine, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5, horse chestnut extract, Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone. For bluish-purple dark circles and morning puffiness.
Moisturizing and fine line group
Sodium Hyaluronate, Ceramide, Squalane, Panthenol; signal peptides, Bakuchiol. Soften and plump the surface of dryness lines.
Points to weigh when choosing
Avoid actives that tend to sting (high-concentration acids, strong Retinol); avoid overly waxy bases that cause tiny bumps around the eyes; and keep peptide costs under control.
Key technical points
Four requirements specific to eye area products
Mildness to the eyes
No fragrance, no essential oils, no drying alcohol. Emulsifiers and preservatives chosen to minimize eye stinging; pH set near neutral, close to the pH of tears.
The cream must stay put
A cream that is too fluid or rich in light oils will migrate into the eyes as skin warms. Viscosity, the melting point of the oil phase and film-forming polymers are adjusted so the cream stays where it is applied.
Lightweight, no tiny bumps
Eye skin has few oil glands but easily develops tiny bumps when the base is too occlusive. Light esters and Squalane replace waxes and heavy mineral oils; only a very small amount is applied each time, so the cream must spread evenly.
Instant effect and long-term results
Light-diffusing particles and smoothing polymers make the eye area look fresher on application; the actives work over weeks. The two layers are designed together and stated clearly in the claims.
Three formulation directions
Three common textures
Eye cream
A soft emulsion with moderate richness. For dry skin and fine lines; for morning and evening use.
Eye gel
Water-rich, cooling, fast-absorbing. For morning puffiness and younger users; pairs well with a metal roller tip.
Eye serum
Fluid, with a higher active content, applied before cream. Usually packed in small pump bottles or tubes with a dab-on tip.
Packaging designed alongside the formula
Slim-nozzle tubes for small doses and limited air exposure; a cooling metal or ceramic tip can be added. With small volumes, seal integrity and residual product in the tube must be checked.
Parameters we monitor
What our R&D lab measures on every sample
Below are the parameters Butter-C monitors during formula development and scale-up to production. Specific limits are agreed with you on the approved sample and then written into the product's in-house specification.
- Sensory profile & odor
- Color, smoothness and base odor — tracking the Glutathione odor across stability time points.
- pH
- Measured at 25°C on a diluted solution; monitoring pH drift over time.
- Viscosity
- Measured with a rotational viscometer; checked at skin temperature to assess migration.
- Emulsion stability
- Centrifugation, freeze–thaw cycling, storage at 40°C; monitoring for separation and oil bleeding.
- Active content
- Assay of the main actives by HPLC at the start and after stability testing.
- Eye mildness assessment
- Irritation testing and evaluation under ophthalmologist supervision at a testing facility when the label needs to carry this statement.
- In-use feel
- Spreadability, absorption, stinging sensation, compatibility under makeup.
- Microbiology & preservative challenge
- Tested at a GLP / ISO 17025-accredited laboratory; preservative efficacy (challenge) test according to ISO 11930.
- Packaging compatibility
- Filled into the actual tubes to be used; checking tail seal integrity, squeeze force and residual product.
Claims
Writing claims within the cosmetic scope
For the eye area, safe wording talks about how the skin looks, not about the underlying causes. Butter-C reviews the wording on labels and marketing materials while preparing the cosmetic product notification.
Helps reduce the appearance of dark circles
Instead of: treats dark circles, erases dark circles, eliminates dark circles at the root.
Helps the eye area look less puffy
Instead of: treats eye bags, dissolves fat pads, reduces edema.
Helps reduce the appearance of fine lines
Instead of: erases crow's feet, lifts eyelids, rejuvenates the eye area.
Eye mildness assessed
State "ophthalmologically tested" only with a test report. Instead of: completely safe for the eyes.
Directions for use
State the amount to use clearly, apply around the orbital bone, avoid getting the product in the eyes; if contact occurs, rinse immediately with clean water.
Figures and timeframes
State percentages or the number of days to visible results only when backed by human testing.
