Hair mist is a very light form of hair care: a water base sprayed as a fine mist onto damp or dry hair to help detangle, moisturize and leave a pleasant scent. In the Vietnamese market, pomelo essential oil sprays are very popular thanks to the traditional story of washing hair with pomelo peel water; alongside them are detangling sprays for children, hair fragrance mists and conditioning sprays for permed or colored hair. Precisely because the category is so popular, it is often overpromoted with hair growth promises. A well-made product focuses on what a hair mist does well: soft, easy-to-comb, fragrant hair and a comfortable scalp. Formula base
Water base, light conditioners and essential oils
A hair mist is a solution or a very thin emulsion designed to spray as an even mist; every ingredient must be fully dissolved or very finely dispersed.
Water base and floral waters
Purified water, rose water and herbal distillates create a light base and an ingredient story.
Light conditioners
Cationic polymers, low-level cetrimonium chloride and water-soluble silicones detangle and reduce static without weighing hair down.
Humectants and proteins
Panthenol, glycerin, rice protein and wheat protein moisturize and form a soft film on the hair.
Essential oils and solubilizers
Pomelo peel, rosemary and peppermint oils; solubilizers keep the solution clear, with no oily film on top.

Four factors that decide hair mist quality
Clear solution, no oily film
Essential oils and fragrance must be solubilized enough for the solution to stay clear even when cold; solubilizer levels are balanced so hair does not feel sticky.
Fine, even mist
Low viscosity and a suitable actuator let the mist cover hair evenly instead of forming droplets.
Light, not greasy
Conditioner levels are lower than in a conditioner; hair is assessed after several hours to make sure roots do not look greasy.
Gentle essential oil levels
The mist may reach the scalp several times a day; essential oil concentration is kept at a gentle level to limit stinging.

What our R&D lab measures on every sample
These are the parameters Butter-C monitors during formula development and scale-up to production. Specific limits are agreed with you on the approved sample and then written into the product's in-house specification.

- Checked at room temperature and after cold storage; no haze, no oily film.

- Measured at 25°C; gentle on the scalp and compatible with the preservative system.

- Checked with the actual actuator to be used.
- Detangling performance
- Combing force measured on sample hair tresses after spraying.
- On-hair assessment
- Softness, fragrance and greasiness at the roots after several hours.
- Microbiology and preservative efficacy
- Tested at a GLP / ISO 17025-accredited laboratory; preservative efficacy (challenge) test to ISO 11930.
- Allergens in essential oils
- Essential oil and fragrance compositions checked; labeled when above the threshold for leave-on hair products.
