Sleeping mask OEM/ODM manufacturing
Sleeping Mask · OEM/ODM
A sleeping mask is the last step of the evening routine: apply a thin layer, leave it on overnight and wash it off the next morning. It sits between a night cream and a rinse-off mask — lighter than a cream, yet able to form a thin film that holds water in for many hours. That makes the technical requirements quite specific: the film must set dry within a few minutes so it does not transfer to the pillow, must not pill when layered over a serum, and must be gentle enough to stay on the skin all night. Color and fragrance are also part of the product, because consumers buy this category on emotion. Butter-C offers full-service OEM/ODM manufacturing, from formula development to labeled finished goods and the cosmetic product notification.
Formula base
Moisture-holding film, humectants and actives
A sleeping mask formula combines a film-forming framework, a water-holding group and actives that fit the brand story. The three groups below are the directions Butter-C works with.
Film-forming framework
Gelling and film-forming polymers (Carbomer, Acrylates Crosspolymer, Pullulan, Sodium Polyacrylate), light silicones or silicone-replacement esters. Determine how dry and how adherent the film feels.
Humectants and occlusives
Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Betaine and Trehalose hold water; Squalane, Ceramides and shea butter in moderate amounts limit water evaporation overnight.
Extracts and actives
Berry, ginseng, lavender and centella extracts; Niacinamide, Panthenol, peptides. Extracts carry the product story and affect the base color and odor.
What to weigh when choosing
The mask stays on the skin for hours, so strong actives are limited; choose a gentle fragrance; control tackiness; and ensure color stability of the product in a clear jar.
Key technical points
Four factors that determine sleeping mask quality
Dry film, no transfer to the pillow
The ratio of polymers, humectants and oils is tuned so the film sets within a few minutes. Real-use testing includes pressing fabric against the skin after application.
No pilling when layered
A sleeping mask goes on after toner and serum, sometimes even after cream. Polymers are chosen so they do not roll into flakes when they meet other products.
Color stability
The blue, purple or pink shades come from colorants permitted in cosmetics. Colorants fade under light and shift with pH, so light-exposure testing must be done in the actual packaging.
Fragrance and gentleness
A relaxing scent is a selling point but also a source of irritation when left on overnight. We choose fragrances low in declarable allergens, at low doses, with a fragrance-free option for sensitive skin.
Three formulation directions
Three common textures
Gel sleeping mask
Clear or translucent, cooling, high in water. Suited to oily and combination skin and hot, humid climates.
Gel-cream sleeping mask
Milky white or lightly tinted, with small amounts of oils and barrier lipids. A popular texture that suits many skin types.
Rich cream sleeping mask
Close to a night cream, with strong moisture sealing. Suited to dry skin, air-conditioned rooms and cold seasons.
Packaging must be planned with the formula
Glass or thick plastic jars with a spatula; clear jars show off the color but require light-stable colorants. Tubes are suitable when hygiene is the priority.
Parameters we monitor
What our R&D lab measures on every sample
Below are the parameters Butter-C monitors during formula development and scale-up to production. Specific limits are agreed with you on the approved sample and then written into the product's in-house specification.
- Sensory profile & color
- Color, odor, smoothness; color checked against the reference sample for every batch under the same lighting conditions.
- pH
- Measured at 25°C; pH affects colorant shade and gel thickness.
- Viscosity
- Measured with a rotational viscometer; monitored at room temperature and after accelerated aging.
- Color stability
- Light exposure in the actual packaging to be used; fading and shade shifts monitored.
- Stability
- 40°C and freeze–thaw cycling; monitored for separation, gel thinning and odor change.
- Film setting time
- Evaluated on skin: drying time, tackiness, transfer to fabric.
- Overnight moisturizing performance
- Stratum corneum hydration measured at a testing facility when a label claim requires substantiation.
- Microbiology & preservative challenge
- Tested at a GLP / ISO 17025-accredited laboratory; preservative efficacy (challenge) test per ISO 11930.
- Packaging compatibility
- Filled into the actual jar to be used; checked for seal integrity, weight loss and staining of the jar walls and lid.
Claims
Writing claims within the cosmetic scope
Words such as "Renew" or "Revive" on English-language labels should be rendered on the Vietnamese label in terms of the skin's appearance. Butter-C reviews the wording on labels and marketing materials while preparing the notification dossier.

State the INCI name of each extract; link benefits to the product itself, not to the traditional herbal uses of ginseng or berries.
Directions for use
State clearly: use in the evening as the last step, the amount to apply, how many times per week, and wash the face the next morning.
