Dishwashing liquid OEM/ODM manufacturing
Dishwashing Liquid · Hand Dish Soap · OEM/ODM
Dishwashing liquid is used every day in every kitchen to hand-wash plates, pots, pans and utensils — unlike the tablets or powders made for dishwashers. Users judge it on very concrete points: grease comes off quickly, foam survives contact with grease, it rinses easily without leaving a smell on dishes, it has a pleasant thickness, and it limits dryness on hands after long washing-up. Technically, dishwashing liquid is a surfactant solution mixed at room temperature, thickened with salt and filled into bottles — a process close to shampoo and shower gel on a liquid cosmetics line. Please note: dishwashing liquid is a household cleaning product, not a cosmetic, and has no cosmetic product notification; the label follows the rules on product labeling, with safety warnings appropriate to the ingredients. A product that wants to make claims about acting on bacteria falls under the household and medical-use preparations category and requires its own registration. Butter-C advises on formulation and packaging; the manufacturing arrangement and dossier are discussed separately for each project.
Formula base
Anionic surfactants paired with amine oxide or betaine
Dishwashing liquid is a water-based surfactant solution, thickened with salt, at near-neutral pH to stay gentle on the hands.
Primary cleansers
LAS (sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate) and SLES — cut grease and build foam; LAS is usually neutralized from its acid form directly in the mixing tank.
Secondary cleansers
Lauramine oxide or cocamidopropyl betaine — boost and hold foam in the presence of grease, and reduce the drying feel of the anionic base.
Viscosity and clarity
Sodium chloride thickens the SLES base; a hydrotrope such as sodium xylenesulfonate keeps concentrates clear and prevents clouding in cold weather.
pH, chelation and preservation
Near-neutral pH; GLDA or citrate support cleaning in hard water; a preservative system suited to a water-rich solution.
Key technical points
Four things that decide the quality of a dishwashing liquid
Foam that holds up to grease
Grease collapses foam quickly; the ratio of anionics to amine oxide or betaine decides how many rounds of washing the foam lasts.
Stable viscosity
The viscosity of an SLES base rises with salt up to a peak and then falls; the salt level must be fixed and viscosity kept stable across temperatures and throughout the shelf life.
Gentle on hands with frequent use
Combine glucosides, amine oxide or betaine and add glycerin; keep the pH near neutral and avoid a strongly alkaline base.
Rinses clean from tableware
The product contacts food indirectly through dishes — directions call for a thorough water rinse; fragrance and color are chosen as suitable for tableware detergents.
Three formulation directions
Three common types of dishwashing liquid
Gentle on hands
Glucosides with SLES and betaine, plus glycerin; light scent or fragrance-free, no color.
Botanical
Lemon scent, green tea extract, soapberry or honey locust in a supporting role — surfactants still do the main cleaning.
Concentrated
High cleanser content, a small dose each time; needs a hydrotrope to stay clear and easy to pour.
Packaging must be planned with the formula
Flip-cap or pump bottle, large canister, refill pouch; viscosity matched to the closure for comfortable pouring.
Parameters we monitor
What our R&D lab measures on every sample
Below are the parameters monitored during formula development. Specific limits are agreed with you on the approved sample and then written into the product's in-house specification.
- pH
- Measured on the solution when freshly made and after aging.
- Surfactant content
- Per formula, assayed on the finished product.
- Viscosity, clarity
- Measured at a set temperature; tracked across storage temperatures and time, no clouding, no separation.
- Foaming
- Foam height and stability measured with and without grease.
- Grease removal
- Washing test on standard plates coated with standard soil, counting the plates cleaned before the foam runs out, against a control.
- Microbiology
- Tested at a GLP / ISO 17025-accredited laboratory.
- Packaging compatibility
- Bottle, cap and refill pouch checked after aging.
Claims
Writing claims that fit the product category
A dishwashing liquid only talks about cleaning tableware; claims about bacteria or health belong to other categories.
Removes grease from dishes, pots and pans
Describes the cleaning function accurately.
Long-lasting foam, easy rinsing, no smell left on dishes
Describes the result when used as directed.
Gentle on hands for daily use
Describes the formula's properties, backed by a suitable skin irritation test.
Helps remove fishy odors from utensils by cleaning
Instead of: claims of killing microorganisms without a regulated-preparation dossier.
Lemon scent, with green tea extract
Instead of: claims that natural extracts act on bacteria or health.
Directions and warnings
Rinse utensils thoroughly with water after washing; avoid the eyes; do not swallow; keep away from children.
