Room & linen spray OEM/ODM manufacturing
Room & Linen Spray · Room Mist · Fabric Spray · OEM/ODM
A room and linen spray is a fragrance solution in a water base, an alcohol base or a blend, used to scent living spaces, curtains, pillows, bed linen and clothes. Fragrance is an oil-soluble mixture that does not dissolve in water, so the formula needs a fragrance solubilizer or alcohol to keep the solution clear and the mist free of oily marks on fabric. The product is filled in a hand-pump fine-mist bottle — no propellant, not a pressurized aerosol can. The process is mixing at room temperature, filtering and filling, close to fragrance mists and facial mists on a cosmetics line. Odor-reducing agents such as cyclodextrin derivatives or zinc ricinoleate can be added alongside the masking role of the fragrance. Please note: this is a household product, not a cosmetic, and has no cosmetic product notification; the label follows the rules on product labeling, with warnings appropriate to the ingredients — alcohol bases are flammable, do not spray on skin or eyes, test on a hidden area of fabric before use. The product makes no claims of cleaning the air or acting on microorganisms; such claims belong to the regulated preparations category with its own registration dossier. Butter-C advises on formulation and packaging; manufacturing requirements, in-house specification and product labeling are discussed separately for each project.
Formula base
Fragrance solubilized in a water or alcohol base
A scented spray is a clear solution of solvent, fragrance, fragrance solubilizer and, for water-rich bases, a preservative system.
Solvent
Purified water, alcohol or a blend; alcohol makes the scent spread and dry quickly on surfaces, while a water base is gentler on fabric.
Fragrance
Developed by the fragrance supplier, with an IFRA certificate for the correct product type: air care and fabric fragrance.
Fragrance solubilizer
Polysorbate 20 and PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil keep the solution clear in low-alcohol or alcohol-free bases.
Odor-reducing agents
Hydroxypropyl cyclodextrin holds part of the odor molecules inside its ring structure; zinc ricinoleate binds certain odor compounds.
Key technical points
Four things that decide the quality of a scented spray
Solution clarity
The solubilizer-to-fragrance ratio decides clarity; watch for haze in the cold and after aging.
No marks on fabric
Excess fragrance and solubilizer can leave marks; test on several fabrics and advise users to spray a hidden area first.
Fine, even mist
Choose the fine-mist pump to suit viscosity and solvent; gaskets and dip tubes must withstand alcohol and fragrance.
Safety in use and transport
Alcohol bases are flammable: the label warns to keep away from flames; manufacturing, storage and transport conditions are discussed separately; do not spray directly at people or pets.
Three formulation directions
Three common types of scented spray
Alcohol base for rooms
Scent spreads and dries quickly; for living rooms, bedrooms, cars.
Water base for fabric
Alcohol-free or low-alcohol, gentle on fabric; for pillows, curtains, bed linen, clothes before ironing.
Odor-reducing line
With cyclodextrin or zinc ricinoleate and a light scent; for sofas, curtains, shoe cabinets.
Packaging must be planned with the formula
Glass or alcohol-resistant plastic bottles, fine-mist pumps; no pressurized cans.
Parameters we monitor
What our R&D lab measures on every sample
Below are the parameters monitored during formula development. Specific limits are agreed with you on the approved sample and then written into the product's in-house specification.
- Appearance and clarity
- Color, odor and clarity when freshly made, in the cold and after aging.
- pH
- Measured on water-based versions to choose and monitor the preservative system.
- Density, alcohol content
- Per formula, checked on the finished product.
- Marks on fabric
- Sprayed on light-colored and synthetic fabric swatches, dried, then inspected for marks.
- Spray pattern
- Fineness, evenness and output per stroke with the chosen pump.
- Microbiology
- Tested at a GLP / ISO 17025-accredited laboratory, especially for water-based versions.
- Packaging compatibility
- Bottle, pump and gaskets checked after aging: no leaks, no deformation.
Claims
Writing claims that fit the product category
A scented spray only talks about fragrance and odor perception; claims about air quality, microorganisms or health belong to other categories.
Gives rooms and fabric a pleasant scent
Describes the product's function accurately.
Helps reduce the perception of unpleasant odors in the room
Instead of: claims of cleaning or purifying the air.
Scent stays on fabric
Instead of: claims of killing microorganisms on fabric without a regulated-preparation dossier.
A relaxing space through scent
Instead of: claims about respiratory health or sleep.
Hand-pump bottle, no propellant
Describes the packaging format accurately.
Directions and warnings
Spray into the room or onto fabric from a moderate distance; test first on a hidden area; do not spray on skin or eyes; keep alcohol bases away from flames; keep away from children; declare fragrance allergens on the label as required by the target market.
