Hair oil OEM/ODM manufacturing
Hair Oil · Hair Serum Oil · OEM/ODM
Hair oil is the final step in a hair care routine: a few drops smoothed over the lengths and ends after blow-drying or before heading out, leaving hair shiny, smooth, manageable and less frizzy. In the Vietnamese market the category follows two clear directions: light silicone-based oils for instant shine and a dry finish, and plant-oil products built on coconut, camellia or pomelo peel essential oil that carry a natural story. The shared technical challenge is skin feel on the hair: the oil has to spread thinly along the strands, leave roots free of grease, keep hair from feeling heavy, and carry a pleasant fragrance that is not overpowering. Butter-C offers full-service OEM/ODM manufacturing, from formula development to labeled finished goods and the cosmetic product notification.
Formula base
Silicones, plant oils, light esters and fragrance
Hair oil is almost anhydrous; the balance between silicones, plant oils and esters determines shine, weight and how dry the finish feels.
Silicones
Volatile silicones for a quick-drying feel; Dimethicone, Dimethiconol and Phenyl Trimethicone for shine and slip. Some cyclic silicones are now restricted in the European market.
Plant oils
Argan, camellia, coconut and jojoba oils — for softness, shine and an ingredient story.
Esters and dry oils
C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Isododecane — reduce the oily feel and help the oil spread thinly along the hair.
Essential oils and fragrance
Pomelo peel essential oil, rosemary, salon-style fragrances; antioxidants keep the oils and fragrance from going rancid.
Key technical points
Four factors that determine hair oil quality
Shine without greasiness
Heavy and light oils are balanced so hair shines while roots stay grease-free after several hours; tested on both fine and thick hair.
Spreads thin, a little goes a long way
A few drops must cover long hair; viscosity and surface tension determine how well the oil spreads along the strands.
No rancidity, no odor change
Plant oils can go rancid over time; we select stable oils, add antioxidants and use dark bottles.
Compliant in each market
Cyclic silicones and certain fragrance ingredients have different limits from market to market; export formulas are reviewed separately.
Three formulation directions
Three common types of hair oil
Silicone hair oil
Instant shine, dry finish, strong anti-frizz effect; suits permed or color-treated hair and hair that is blow-dried often.
Plant-based hair oil
Camellia, argan, coconut and pomelo essential oil; a natural story and softening care; may feel heavier on fine hair.
Hybrid hair oil
A light silicone base with featured plant oils; balances skin feel and ingredient story.
Packaging must be planned with the formula
Dropper bottles, small-dose pump bottles, oil sprays. Dark glass bottles keep plant oils stable for longer.
Parameters we monitor
What our R&D lab measures on every sample
Below are the parameters Butter-C monitors during formula development and scale-up to production. Specific limits are agreed with you on the approved sample and then written into the product's in-house specification.
- Clarity and color
- No haze or sediment after cold storage; color checked against the reference sample.
- Peroxide value and odor
- Tracks rancidity of plant oils after aging tests.
- Viscosity
- Measured at 25°C; affects spreadability and dosage.
- Performance on hair
- Shine, smoothness and greasiness at the roots after several hours, on hair tresses and with user panels.
- Microbiology
- Tested at a GLP / ISO 17025-accredited laboratory.
- Allergens in essential oils
- Essential oil and fragrance composition checked; declared on the label when above the threshold for leave-on hair products.
- Packaging compatibility
- Monitors plastic softening, dropper cap leakage and fragrance loss.
- Market-specific ingredients
- Cyclic silicones and restricted ingredients reviewed for each target market.
Claims
Writing claims within the cosmetic scope
Pomelo essential oil and hair oils are often promoted as helping hair grow — a claim outside the cosmetic scope. Butter-C reviews the wording on labels and marketing materials while preparing the notification dossier.
