Underwear is washed often, is made of fine materials such as lace, cotton and elastic fibers, and carries specific soils: sweat, sebum, discharge and sometimes blood. Most of these are protein-based, so ordinary detergents easily leave yellow marks and odor. A dedicated underwear detergent needs to clean protein-based stains well, stay gentle on delicate fibers, keep colors, rinse easily and leave little residue on fabric that touches the skin. Please note: laundry detergent is a household cleaning product, not a cosmetic; the label follows the rules on product labeling, with safety warnings appropriate to the ingredients. If the product is to make antibacterial claims, it falls under the regulated preparations category with its own registration dossier. Formula base
Gentle cleansers combined with enzymes for protein-based stains
Underwear detergent is a surfactant solution at moderate concentration, with added enzymes and chelating agents to clean at room temperature.
Cleansers
Glucosides from coconut oil and sugar combined with a mild sulfate and betaine — remove sebum and sweat, rinse easily.
Protease enzyme
Breaks down protein-based soils such as sweat, discharge and blood at room temperature; needs a stabilizing system to keep its activity in solution.
Chelating agents
Sodium gluconate, GLDA, citrate — support cleaning in hard water and help limit yellowing from minerals.
pH and preservation
Near-neutral to mildly alkaline pH, gentle on fibers and on the hands; a preservative system suited to a water-rich solution.
Key technical points
Four things that decide the quality of an underwear detergent
Keeping enzyme activity
Enzymes are unstable in water-based solutions; choose a stabilized liquid enzyme, add calcium and polyols, and monitor activity throughout the shelf life.
Gentle on delicate fabrics
No strong oxidizing bleaches and no optical brighteners for colored underwear; protect elastic fibers and lace.
Easy rinsing, low residue
Moderate foam that rinses out in one or two waters; a light scent so no heavy odor stays on fabric that touches the skin.
Safe to use
The label states use and dosage clearly; warnings to avoid the eyes and keep away from children, based on the ingredients.
